Understanding the Structure of the Foot
Your footwork is a network of bone, muscle, ligaments, nerve endings, and blood vessels working in tandem with each other to bear the full pressure of your weight. The feet were built for toughness, but even they have their limits. An average day of walking subjects your feet to tons of pressure, and it’s just a matter of time before something gives out. Thankfully, most foot problems can be fixed with simple, non-invasive treatments.
The following are some common foot problems:
- Athlete’s foot – One of the most prevalent foot problems in the U.S. This is a skin condition caused by fungus growth—usually in between the toes. If your feet are often scaly, itchy, and swollen, you could be dealing with athlete’s foot.
- Corns and calluses – your body is always shedding dead skin, but in the foot, this dead skin can sometimes get trapped and form into a callus. Calluses typically development when the foot is exposed to a lot of pressure. Friction against the growth can be both irritating and painful.
- Foot odor – Your foot contains more than 200 thousand sweat glands, and without a chance to aerate, the odors can get trapped in the skin. Our team can help clean out your feet and provide you with tips to avoid foot odor.
- Warts – Warts are abnormal growths on the skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus causes an overgrowth of skin that results in the wart. While warts are not very painful or dangerous, it can take months or even years for them to go away. Additionally, if your foot develops a wart it could mean it is susceptible to other infections.
